COMMUNITY LIVING CAMP AND NSS CAMP - DAY 2

Venue: Sabarigiri HSS, Anchal & Manasa Gramam (Chirpivayal)
The second day of the NSS Special Camp began early in the morning at 5.30 AM with the wake-up call, followed by tea from 5.45 AM to 6.15 AM. The volunteers actively participated in Yoga/Zumba session from 6.15 AM to 7.15 AM, which helped them maintain physical fitness and mental freshness. After freshening up, breakfast was provided from 7.15 AM to 8.30 AM.
The day’s formal activities began with the Morning Assembly from 8.45 AM to 9.30 AM, conducted by the Second Day Programme Committee. The assembly began with a prayer rendered beautifully by the college choir. The First Day Programme Committee presented a reflection on the previous day’s activities, sharing their experiences and learning outcomes. The Media Committee presented the highlights of the previous day’s events in a humorous and engaging manner, which made the session lively and enjoyable.
From 9.30 AM to 11.00 AM, a session titled “Know Your Village” was conducted, followed by a Survey among the members of Manasa Gramam from 11.00 AM to 2.00 PM. The survey was mainly conducted among women above 18 years of age in Chirpivayal village. It focused on gathering information regarding educational qualification, marital status, employment status, interest in starting small-scale businesses, health condition, and awareness of health insurance schemes. The survey provided an opportunity for the student teachers to interact directly with the community members and understand the socio-economic conditions of women in the village. This activity helped the volunteers identify areas where guidance and support could be provided for the overall development of the community.
Lunch break was provided from 1.00 PM to 2.00 PM.
In the afternoon session from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM, an Awareness Class on Snake Bite, its Primary Treatment, Prevention, and Precautions was conducted by Liju Thajudeen, SFO and District Facilitator of Sarpa App, Kollam. The session provided valuable knowledge about various venomous and non-venomous snakes found in India and Kerala. The resource person explained the identification of dangerous snakes and educated the volunteers about preventive measures to avoid snake bites. The class mainly focused on the first aid measures that should be taken immediately after a snake bite, helping volunteers understand how to respond effectively during emergency situations.
After the afternoon session, volunteers had a Tea Break and Fresh Up from 4.30 PM to 6.30 PM, followed by a Community Prayer from 6.35 PM to 7.15 PM.
The evening cultural programme from 7.30 PM to 9.30 PM was led by Vineeth Elamadu, Flowers Comedy Utsavam Fame. The programme included various entertaining and creative activities such as Nadan Paattu, Mimicry, and a Creative Newspaper Fashion Show, in which both teachers and student teachers actively participated. These activities encouraged teamwork, creativity, and strengthened the bond among volunteers.
Dinner was served from 9.30 PM to 10.30 PM, and the day’s activities concluded with Lights Off at 10.45 PM, marking the successful completion of the second day of the camp.
