REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
MONDAY - 28.07.2025
I reached the school by around 8:45 a.m., signed the attendance register, and proceeded to the assigned room. Shortly after, I went for disciplinary duty in the corridors, and by 9:25 a.m., I attended the teacher’s prayer session. Following the school prayer, I returned to the assigned room. Today, I took a class for my concerned class, 8B in the third period, and taught the chapter "Let’s Cultivate and Reap Goodness", topic: "An experiment to find out the availability of nitrogen in crop plants through leaf colour chart". During the lunch break, we helped serve the midday meal to the students. Later, during a substitution in class 6A during the fifth hour, I asked the students to read the textbook silently, ensuring they remained engaged. Later, I received a substitution again in my concerned class 8B during the sixth period, where I continued with the next topic from the chapter "Lets cultivate and reap goodness", focusing on "Quantity of Nutrients in Consuming Vegetables and the Necessity of Including Local Vegetables in Our Diet." As I had no other class hours scheduled after that, I utilized the free time to complete my pending college assignments. As usual, karate classes and other regular co-curricular activities were going on at the end of the day. After school dispersal, we signed the attendance register and left the school by around 4:30 p.m.

Again, during the sixth period, I received another substitution in the same class, 8B, where I continued teaching the same chapter. This time, the topic covered was "Green house and types of irrigation methods - features and benefits". As I had no other class hours scheduled after that, I utilized the free time to complete my pending college assignments. As usual, karate classes and other regular co-curricular activities were going on at the end of the day. After school dispersal, we signed the attendance register and left the school by around 4:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY - 30.07.2025
Today I reached the school by around 8.50 a.m. After signing the register, I went for my disciplinary duty in the school corridor. Then I returned to the teacher's staff room to attend the teacher's prayer. After the school prayer, we went back to the allotted room. Today, there was a special assembly held on the school ground, conducted by class 10A. During the assembly, the Headmistress addressed the students and teachers, reminding everyone that today marked one year since the Mundakkayam landslide. As a mark of respect, she asked us to observe a two-minute silent prayer for the children and people who lost their lives in the tragedy. She also informed the teachers to prepare for conducting the upcoming unit test in the following week. Later, during the fourth period, I received a substitution in my concerned class, 8B, where I taught the chapter "Let’s Cultivate and Reap Goodness." The topic I covered was "Types of pest, it's control mechanisms and IPM". During the afternoon, we served the midday meal to the students. Continuing into the fifth period, I again had a substitution in the same class, 8B, where I continued teaching the same chapter. I had no other classes scheduled in the afternoon session, so I spent my time completing my college-related work. As usual, after school dispersal, karate classes were going on. By around 4:30 p.m., we signed the attendance register and left the school campus.
THURSDAY - 31.07.2025
Today I reached the school by around 9.00 a.m. After signing the register, I went for my disciplinary duty in the school corridor. Then I returned to the teacher's staff room to attend the teacher's prayer. After the school prayer, we went back to the allotted room. Today, I had several substitutions across different classes. During the second period, I got a substitution in my concerned class, 8B, where I taught the chapter "Let’s Cultivate and Reap Goodness." The topic I taught was "Types of smart farming techniques, it's features and advantages". Immediately after that, during the third period, I had a substitution in class 8A, where I engaged the students by showing visuals from the National Geographic documentary "The Planet." FRIDAY - 01.08.2025
Today I reached the school by around 9.00 a.m. After signing the register, I went for my disciplinary duty in the school corridor. Then I returned to the teacher's staff room to attend the teacher's prayer. After the school prayer, we went back to the allotted room. Today began with a teachers’ meeting scheduled in the first hour. As a result, all B Ed trainees were asked to take charge of classes without assigned teachers. Since the number of classes was quite large and we were only 11 trainees, many sections remained unattended—especially on the top floor. I was assigned to manage that area, and I ended up handling four classes at once: 6A, 6B, 6C, and 7A. It was a unique and memorable experience for me, as it was the first time I had to control four classes simultaneously. During the second period, I got a substitution in my concerned class, 8B, where I taught the chapter "Let’s Cultivate and Reap Goodness." The topic I covered was "Role of geographical indications and examples of products received it.". In the third period, I had another substitution, and again in the fourth period, I got a substitution in 8B, where I continued the same chapter. The topic taught during that period was "Types of diversifying agriculture and it's significance". During the afternoon, we served the midday meal to the students. In the fifth period, an Independence Day quiz competition was conducted across all classes. Then, in the sixth period, I got a substitution in class 8A. Although it is a Malayalam medium class, the concerned teacher had instructed me to continue the Biology portion, so I briefly outlined the key concepts for the students. I had no other classes scheduled in the afternoon session, so I utilized the time to complete my college-related work. After school dispersal, karate classes were going on. By around 4:30 p.m., we signed the attendance register and left the school campus.
CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
During this week, I successfully completed teaching the first chapter of Basic Science – Biology, titled "Let’s Cultivate and Reap Goodness." Over the week, I covered eight topics in total. The topics are as follows: "An experiment to find out the availability of nitrogen in crop plants through leaf colour chart, Quantity of nutrients in consuming vegetables and necessity of including local vegetables in our diet, Types of methods for producing high yielding plants-steps, features and advantages, Green house and types of irrigation methods - features and benefits, Types of pest, it's control mechanisms and IPM, Integrated farming- advantages and possibilities for food safety and reduction of cost production, Types of smart farming techniques, it's features and advantages, Different types of Marketing techniques and it's advantages, Role of geographical indications and examples of products received it, Types of diversifying agriculture and it's significance." In addition to regular classes, there were a few notable events this week. On Wednesday morning, a special assembly was conducted in remembrance of the Mundakkayam landslide. On Friday, the school conducted the Independence Quiz. The sports practice session takes place every day of the week and is held after the sixth period, continuing until dispersal. Additionally, karate practice is conducted daily on the school campus, adding to the active and engaging environment.
OVERALL REFLECTION ON CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
This week, I completed teaching the first chapter of Biology, “Let’s Cultivate and Reap Goodness.” On Monday, I took two topics. The first topic I taught was an experiment to find out the availability of nitrogen in crop plants through the leaf colour chart. It was conducted as an activity where I used one leaf colour chart and three leaf samples, and the session followed an inquiry-based approach that actively involved the students. The second topic was the quantity of nutrients in consuming vegetables and the necessity of including local vegetables in our diet. For this, I followed an ICT plus activity mode of teaching, where I used five slides, one chart, and one cutout. On Tuesday, I also took two topics. The first topic was the types of methods for producing high-yielding plants, including steps, features, and advantages. I used six slides, two charts, and one model-based activity to make the content more concrete and understandable. The second topic covered greenhouse and types of irrigation methods, explained through ICT and activity. For this, I used seven slides, one chart, and two cutouts representing different irrigation tools. On Wednesday, I took another two topics. The first topic was types of pests, their control mechanisms, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). I used six slides, two charts, and two cutouts to help students identify pest types and understand various control strategies. The second topic was integrated farming and its possibilities for food safety and cost reduction. This was delivered using ICT, with five informative slides showing diagrams and real-life examples. On Thursday, I taught two topics. The first topic was types of smart farming techniques, their features, and advantages. This was done using the ICT method, with seven slides that included visuals of drones, sensors, and other smart applications used in agriculture. The second topic was different types of marketing techniques and their advantages, which I taught using an ICT plus activity approach. I used five slides, one chart, and one cutout (role-play activity card) to help students understand marketing methods in a fun and practical way. On Friday, I took the final two topics. The first topic was role of geographical indications and examples of products that received it. This was done using the ICT method, with four slides that included GI tags, product visuals, and a map of India highlighting GI-tagged items. The second topic was types of diversifying agriculture and its significance, which I taught through an ICT plus activity method using six slides, two charts, and one cutout (for classification or listing activity). In total, I used 63 slides, 13 charts, and 9 cutouts throughout the week. Initially, during the first hour, students were very active and enthusiastic. However, as I received substitutions and had to continue with the same subject in the following hours, I observed that students began to feel a slight sense of boredom due to continuous exposure. To keep their interest alive, I tried to make the sessions more engaging by using attractive slides and interactive cutouts wherever possible.
