WEEKEND REFLECTION: WEEK 1

As part of our first phase of teaching practice, the Natural Science Department conducted our first weekly reflection session on Sunday, 19th July 2025. The Google Meet session began at 7:30 p.m. and concluded by 8:30 p.m. The session was held in the presence of our respected department head, Sreedevi Miss.

The session began with the teacher inviting us to share our experiences from the first week. However, instead of everyone sharing, one trainee from each school was selected to speak. Ameena from GHSS Vayala School was the first to share her experience. She was followed by Muhsina Sulaiman from St goretti School, who specifically mentioned that her classes were constantly monitored by the in-charge teacher. I was the next to speak. I shared both the positive and negative experiences I had during the first week, particularly highlighting the restlessness and lack of discipline among the students in my concerned class. I also spoke about the approach of the school teachers toward us and how they interacted with us as teacher trainees. The last to share was Bhavana from Poredam School, who also discussed her experiences during the week.

As we spoke, our teacher occasionally offered valuable suggestions. She then asked each of us how many lesson plans we had completed so far and reminded us to prepare more before the end of the week. She specifically instructed us to complete at least 10 lesson plans, as we would soon need to prepare our rough diagnostic test question papers based on these lessons.

Additionally, the teacher advised us to maintain a professional boundary with our students and to always carry ourselves as teachers. She also introduced the idea of peer observation. She explained how observing each other’s classes could help us recognize both strengths and weaknesses in our teaching methods. We could learn from each other’s strengths and also provide constructive feedback to help one another improve.

Overall, the session was very insightful and motivating. Our teacher was extremely supportive throughout, encouraging us with kind words and guiding us patiently through every step of our reflection.
