                   REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

MONDAY - 14.07.2025
On the first day of teaching practice, we reached the school by 9.15 a.m. and submitted the attendance register to the headmistress, Mrs. Suja P. Matthew. We then joined the teacher's morning prayer, where the headmistress warmly welcomed us, introduced us to the staff, and gave general instructions. After the school prayer, I signed the teacher trainee's attendance register and received my timetable. We met our respective subject guide teachers; my guide teacher is Mrs. Nisha, and my concerned class is 8C. After that, we proceeded to our assigned classrooms. During the third period, I got a substitution in class 5C for Malayalam, where I asked the students to read from their textbook. Meanwhile, an eye testing camp was being conducted, and I was asked to take the students for the test and bring them back safely. In the afternoon, we helped serve the midday meal. As I had no more teaching periods, I spent time completing college work. At 4.15 p.m., we signed the register, took permission from the headmistress, and left the campus.

TUESDAY - 15.07.2025
On the second day of my teaching practice, I reached the school by around 9.10 a.m. After signing the register, we were given disciplinary duties in different corridors of the school. I went to my assigned corridor and stood there for supervision. When the first bell rang, we returned to the staff room and took part in the teacher's prayer session. Then, after the school prayer, we returned to our assigned rooms. I didn't have any teaching periods today, so I spent my free time completing my college work. In the afternoon, we helped serve the midday meal to all the students. In the evening, after school dispersal, I observed karate and other practices going on for the students. By 4.30 p.m., we signed the register, took permission from the headmistress, and left the school campus.

WEDNESDAY - 16.07.2025
Today I reached the school by around 9.05 a.m. After signing the register, I went for my disciplinary duty in the school corridor. Then I returned to the teacher's staff room to attend the teacher's prayer. After the school prayer, we went back to the allotted room. During the third period, I received a substitution in my concerned class, 8C. I started with the first chapter, first unit of Basic Science — Origin of Life, Origin of Living Things. I introduced the first topic: "Role of Adaptation and Evolution of Living Organisms". In the afternoon, we served the midday meal to students. I had no other teaching periods today. Today also, we saw the karate and other practices going on, and we came to know that these activities happen every day in the evening session after school dispersal. By 4.30 p.m., we signed the register, took permission from the H.M., and left the school campus.

THURSDAY - 17.07.2025
Today I reached the school by around 9.15 a.m. and went to the assigned room. After that, I stood for disciplinary duty in the corridor. We then went to the teacher's staff room for the teacher's prayer. After the school prayer, we returned to the assigned room. During the second period, I had a class in my concerned class. From the first chapter Origin of Life, Origin of Living Things, I taught the second topic — "Theories on the Origin of Life". In between the class, a bell rang announcing a program at the school ground organized by ലഹരി വിമുക്ത സമിതി. It was a drug awareness program that included a street play by the group. It was very entertaining and informative. A pledge was also taken during the session, and important dignitaries, including the Sub-Inspector of Police, were present. During the lunch break, we served the midday meal to the students. In the afternoon session, a writing competition named Vagmayam was conducted at 2 p.m.  In the afternoon, my concerned class was officially changed from 8C to 8B. And my new concerned teacher is Reshma Miss. And she have asked me to start taking classes from Unit 1 of basic science:Lets Cultivate and reap Goodness. So during the fifth period, I went to 8B, introduced myself to the students, and they introduced themselves one by one. We had a small interaction session. During the sixth period, I got a substitution in class 7C, which was a Malayalam period. The teacher had assigned them to write an essay about their village. The students wrote a little and gave me their notebooks to read — it was very interesting. In the seventh period, I got a substitution in class 9B, where the students were completing their written work, and I supervised the class. After school dispersal, karate and other regular practices were going on as usual. Also, our teacher had given us the duty of rewriting the school teachers' timetable on a fresh chart. So after 4 p.m., I joined my fellow teacher trainees and helped with writing the timetable. By 4.30 p.m., we signed the register and left the school campus.

FRIDAY - 18.07.2025
Today was a holiday for all the schools in Kollam district, so I had no class. I spent the day at home completing my college work.

          CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
During this week, in my former concerned class 8C, I started teaching the second chapter of Basic Science — Origin of Life, Origin of Living Things. I covered two topics: Role of Adaptation in the Evolution of Living Organisms and Theories on the Origin of Life. As part of the co-curricular activities, a writing competition named Vagmayam was conducted on Thursday in the afternoon session. In addition, karate and other practices were held every day after 4 p.m. on the school campus. I have also completed writing the reflective journal for this week.

                      EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
A Drug Awareness Program was organized in the school during the second period on Thursday by "ലഹരി വിമോചന സമിതി". Additionally, a writing competition titled "Vagmayam" was conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. During all weekdays, the school also conducts "karate" and other extracurricular practices for students after 4 p.m.

      OVERALL REFLECTION ON CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
I took classes in my former concerned class 8C, starting with the second unit of Basic Science — Origin of Life, Origin of Living Things. I completed two topics: "Role of Adaptation in the Evolution of Living Organisms and Theories on the Origin of Life". In my first session, I used an ICT-enabled approach, followed by an activity-based ICT class. Overall, the class was slightly undisciplined, with restless students showing signs of hyperactivity and lack of concentration. I managed to control the class and attempted to attract students’ attention using ICT tools such as images and videos. I observed that students were more focused and engaged during ICT sessions compared to regular lectures. I also provided follow-up activities like assignments and other written tasks to reinforce the concepts taught.
