ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION
On the 5th of June, the B.Ed trainees from the Natural Science Department at Sabarigiri College of Education came together to commemorate World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility. The event was hosted in collaboration with the College Union (DRUTA) and the NSS unit, and it was made more meaningful by the participation of students from classes 8 and 9 of Sabarigiri School.
Arathi hosted the day’s events, guiding the programme while keeping the energy and interest levels high among the audience. To ensure the young students were both entertained and enlightened, we organized a series of engaging and thought-provoking activities.
The programme began on a soulful note with Reeba presenting a heartfelt poem dedicated to our planet, reminding everyone of the need to protect our natural world. This was followed by a compelling speech from Ameena, who spoke about the harmful effects of plastic and offered useful, everyday alternatives to minimize its usage. Adding a touch of cultural grace, Soorya performed a beautiful dance that celebrated the interconnectedness of life and nature. Another moving poem was recited by Aiswarya, reinforcing the importance of environmental awareness.
A lively game segment, titled "Guess Who?", was organized by Muhsina and Aparna. This fun and educational game created a buzz among the school students, filling the hall with excitement and laughter.
Taking a step beyond performances and words, we put our environmental commitment into practice by creating a small garden in front of the college. Under the guidance of our Head of Department, Sreedevi Miss, and with the heartfelt involvement of Sujatha aunty and Ajitha aunty, we planted saplings to mark the occasion. This act of planting not only symbolized growth and hope but also deepened our bond with the environment. The day was not just an event—it was an experience. It brought us all together in the spirit of environmental care, reinforcing our shared duty to nurture the planet.
In addition to the in-house celebrations, Sabarigiri College of Education, Anchal, in association with NSS Unit No. KL-07-164 and DRUTA College Union, also held intercollegiate competitions to spread awareness about environmental conservation. Two major contests were conducted: Digital Poster Making Competition and Slogan Writing Competition.
The central theme for these competitions was "SAVE PLANET, DITCH PLASTIC", encouraging young minds to creatively express ideas around reducing plastic usage and promoting sustainable habits. Students from various colleges took part enthusiastically by sending their entries via email and WhatsApp. The top entries were acknowledged with e-certificates.
