"MAGICAL MANGROVES" - CLASS BY WWF INDIA

On March 6, 2025, Sabarigiri College of Education hosted an enlightening session titled “Magical Mangroves” in collaboration with WWF-India, aiming to spread awareness about the ecological significance of mangrove forests and their role in environmental protection. The event featured Anushreedha S.S., Project Officer at WWF-India, and Preethi T., a dedicated volunteer from the Magical Mangroves Campaign, whose passionate insights made the session both educational and inspiring.

The program commenced with Aravind delivering the introductory address, warmly welcoming the guests and highlighting their contributions to mangrove conservation. The session continued with a 45-minute talk by the speakers, who explained how mangrove ecosystems serve as vital buffers against coastal erosion, support biodiversity, contribute to carbon sequestration, and sustain the livelihoods of coastal communities. Their informative presentation helped participants understand the urgency of preserving these fragile ecosystems.

A central highlight of the session was the screening of the documentary “Marymolude Kandal Jeevitham”, which poignantly depicted the relationship between mangrove forests and the lives of people who depend on them. The film underscored the socio-environmental importance of mangroves and the challenges of conserving them in the face of modern pressures.

To foster deeper engagement, an interactive quiz featuring 20 questions on mangrove ecosystems was conducted. Students enthusiastically participated, showcasing their knowledge and curiosity. Silla, Me and Shinu emerged as the winners and were honored with prizes for their outstanding performance.

The event concluded with Shamnad sharing his reflections on the session, emphasizing how it broadened his awareness of environmental stewardship and the pressing need to protect natural ecosystems. His words left a lasting impression on the audience. Kripa then delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the resource persons, organizers, and participants for making the event meaningful and impactful.

The “Magical Mangroves” session successfully combined environmental education with engagement, inspiring everyone present to take an active role in safeguarding our planet’s green guardians for future generations.
