On February 12, 2025, Sabarigiri College of Education observed International Epilepsy Day, a global event dedicated to spreading awareness and understanding about epilepsy. The program aimed to educate and sensitize the audience about this neurological condition and how society can offer better support to those living with it.
The event began with Arathi as the anchor, warmly welcoming everyone and setting a thoughtful and respectful tone for the day’s activities. Aparna delivered an informative and impactful speech, explaining epilepsy as a disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, affecting people across all age groups and communities. She emphasized the need for greater awareness, empathy, and medical understanding to break the stigma surrounding epilepsy.
A powerful awareness play followed, performed by Pooja, Muhsina, Arya, Akshaya, Nuju, Ameena, and Aparna. The play was a highlight of the event, effectively portraying the correct actions to take when witnessing a seizure. It stressed essential points such as staying calm, preventing injury, placing the person on their side, and not putting anything in their mouth. The message was clear and educational, teaching the audience that timely and informed actions can save lives. Arathi’s background narration added emotion and clarity, enhancing the overall impact of the performance.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Arya, who appreciated the efforts of all participants, organizers, and the audience for making the program a meaningful and successful one.
The International Epilepsy Day celebration at the college was not just an educational experience but also a call to action for compassion and awareness.
