THEATRE WORKSHOP

A highly engaging and interactive theatre workshop was conducted by Mrs. Priyatha Bharathan, a renowned resource person, on January 7, 2025. The workshop, anchored by Arjun, commenced at 10:00 am and concluded at 3:30 pm.

The Principal, Dr. Roy G, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of theatre and performing arts in shaping the minds and talents of our students. Mrs. Priyatha Bharathan then introduced the workshop, outlining the various activities planned for the day.

The first activity was an action song, where Mrs. Bharathan chose a song about drama from the SCERT textbook. The students repeated the song with her and then enacted the actions, making the performance highly engaging and entertaining.

The second activity was a clap exercise, where the teacher clapped her hands in the rhythm of Karnatic music. The rhythm started slowly and gradually increased in speed, making the students more energetic and engaged.

The third activity was an imitation exercise, where each student had to come to the center of the stage and enact a word or action, which was then imitated by the other students. This activity encouraged creativity and teamwork among the students.

The fourth activity was a group exercise, where students were divided into teams of two and had to enact a short performance. The fifth activity was another group exercise, where the entire class was divided into five groups of nine students each, and each group had to perform a short drama on a theme of their choice.

The performances were highly creative and entertaining, with some groups choosing serious themes like partiality among teachers and natural calamities, while others opted for humorous themes like a wedding day or a nursery.

After a short lunch break, Mrs. Priyatha Bharathan asked the students to use the term "spaghetti" to express any emotion or action, which led to some highly creative and humorous interpretations. This was followed by a one-act play performed by a select group of students, including Surya, Shifana, Anju, and Silla.

The final activity was a nature segment, where the teacher asked the students to lie down on the floor, close their eyes, and imagine themselves as seeds growing into trees. The activity was highly imaginative and helped the students connect with nature.

The workshop concluded with a reflection session, where students Pooja, Shifana, Anju, and Arvind shared their thoughts and experiences about the workshop. They expressed their gratitude to Mrs. Priyatha Bharathan for conducting the workshop and highlighted how the activities had helped them build confidence and develop teamwork skills.
