CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM - STRESS MANAGEMENT

The afternoon session of the Capacity Building Programme on Stress Management, held on January 15, 2025, commenced with Arya's energetic welcome speech, reinvigorating the participants. This session, organized in collaboration with the IQAC and Counseling Cell, aimed to provide in-depth insights into stress management and coping strategies.

At 1:45 pm, the session began with an engaging activity where select students shared their skills and abilities, fostering an interactive atmosphere. I was among the participants who had the opportunity to share my thoughts, finding the experience both enlightening and engaging.

Dr. Bindhu then delved into the topic of stress management, clarifying the distinction between distress and eustress. She introduced the concept of the HPA axis, comprising the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal gland, and explained the role of cortisol in the 'fight or flight' response. The functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems were also discussed.

Dr. Bindhu elaborated on the manifestations of stress and presented effective strategies for managing it. Throughout the session, she incorporated engaging games that revitalized the participants and underscored the importance of mindfulness and presence.

The session also explored fundamental stress management techniques, including identifying stress triggers, developing coping mechanisms, and practicing effective communication. Dr. Bindhu emphasized the significance of applying these skills in real-life situations and cautioned against neglecting them.

The program concluded with a self-realization exercise that incorporated breathing techniques and sensory stimulation, leaving the participants feeling refreshed and inspired. A doubt-clearing session followed, where participants actively engaged with Dr. Bindhu.

Haseena delivered the vote of thanks, expressing our collective gratitude to Dr. Bindhu for her insightful session. We reflected on the lessons learned and appreciated the opportunity to acquire practical tools for managing stress and enhancing our personal and professional lives. The afternoon session was not only informative but also profoundly impactful.
