CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM - LIFE SKILLS
On January 15, 2025, our college's general hall hosted a Capacity Building Programme on Life Skills, a collaborative effort between the IQAC and Counseling Cell. This initiative aimed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge, empowering them to excel in their chosen fields.
The program commenced at 9:30 am with a formal inauguration by our principal, Dr. G. Roy. Anupama delivered a warm welcome address, setting the tone for the event. Silla skillfully anchored the program, while Bhavyasena presented a felicitation speech, highlighting the significance of such initiatives.
Dr. Bindhu, a renowned expert, conducted the session, utilizing an engaging PowerPoint presentation enriched with videos to foster an interactive environment. She began by juxtaposing traditional and modern education systems, emphasizing the need for skill development in the contemporary context.
Dr. Bindhu introduced the concept of the three C's – Capacity, Capability, and Competency – which form the foundation of skill development. She then elaborated on life skills, as defined by WHO and UNICEF, and their importance in everyday life. The core skills were classified into five categories, with subdivisions, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding.
A thought-provoking activity followed, where participants were asked to identify the skills and qualities exhibited by individuals in various roles, such as teachers, friends, relatives, politicians, businesspeople, and social workers. Several participants, including myself, shared their insights, making the session engaging and interactive.
This activity encouraged self-reflection and a deeper understanding of essential traits in different roles. The session also delved into self-awareness, introducing methods like SWOT analysis and the Johari Window to facilitate personal understanding. Dr. Bindhu discussed multiple intelligences, including empathy, sympathy, interpersonal skills, effective communication, and critical thinking.
The session concluded with a focus on emotional resilience, emphasizing strategies to manage stress and cope with emotions. Following the session, participants took a break for lunch.
