SCHOOL INDUCTION PROGRAMME: DAY 4 (24-10-2024)

DAY 4

On the fourth day, October 24, 2024, Thursday, we reached the school at 9.15am. we signed the attendance register and went to the classroom assigned to us.

REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

This evening, the 10th standard students are going on their tour, so the teachers in charge were on leave. As a result, we had substitution duties. During the first period, Aparna and I went to the 6A class for substitution. After that, we split up, and I went to 7B for substitution in the fourth period. Today, I couldn't serve meals to the students because I had duty during the period just before lunch break. However, I was on disciplinary duty near the serving area. After lunch, I again had substitution in the 7C class during the fifth period. After the fifth hour, a student was not feeling well. A teacher asked me to inform the student's class teacher about her condition. I searched for the class teacher and informed them. As tomorrow is the last day of our school induction program, we planned to distribute sweets among the teachers, non-teaching staff, and teacher trainees. So, we approached the Headmistress (HM) and asked her for the correct number of teaching and non-teaching staff on campus. She instructed us not to buy anything for anyone. Later, during school dispersal, I had disciplinary duty. By 4 pm, I signed the attendance register and left the school campus.

REFLECTION ON CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

During the first period, Aparna and I went to a substitution class in 6A. There were only 9 students in the class. We began by taking attendance and then asked them to take out their English and Malayalam textbooks. We instructed them to read the chapters, and they read Malayalam more accurately but struggled to read the English textbook without assistance. To test their vocabulary, we played a small game with them. After the game, I inquired about their ambitions, and they shared modest dreams, such as becoming a plumber or welder when they grow up. I encouraged them to aim higher. After the first period, I received substitution in the 7B class. I asked if they had any work to do, and some were writing notes, so I let them continue. For the rest, I decided to play a game, asking if they were willing to play a Kerala quiz. They agreed, and we divided the boys and girls into two teams. To my surprise, many of them knew the answers, and both teams scored equal marks. In the next period, I received substitution in 7C, but they were a bit more challenging to handle. I asked if they were ready to play a quiz, and initially, they disagreed. However, they eventually agreed, but these students were not updated on current affairs. When I asked who watched TV news, they replied that they only watched cartoons.
