SCHOOL INDUCTION PROGRAMME: DAY 3 (23-10-2024)
DAY 3
On the third day, October 23, 2024, wednesday, we arrived at the school at 9:15 a.m. We signed the attendance register and then proceeded to the classroom assigned to us.
INTERNAL REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
During the second period, we conducted a shared class for the students. In the third hour, we observed a subject teacher class for 9th standard students. Today, we again served lunch to the students as part of the noon meal program. Along with lunch, students were also given boiled eggs. At the beginning of the afternoon session, we received a substitution class for 5th standard. Later, we visited the Headmistress's (HM) office and collected information about the school's history and other details. The HM and other staff members were very cooperative and patiently answered our questions. We observed students practicing vanchipaattu and band for kalolsavam. Today, there was heavy rain, and we were assigned disciplinary duties until 4 pm. Finally, we signed the attendance register and left the campus at 4 pm.
REFLECTION ON CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
At 10:35 am, Aparna and I conducted a shared class for Standard 8, Division D. The total strength of the class was 31, with 28 students present (17 girls and 11 boys). The topic for today's teaching session was "Modern Techniques in Agriculture." I began the class by asking students if they were aware of the unpredictable climate change occurring globally and its adverse effects on traditional agriculture. Some students responded, and then I proceeded to teach them about polyhouse farming and precision farming. I wrote key terms on the blackboard, accompanied by simple diagrams for easy understanding. Next, I randomly called out their roll numbers and asked students to share one point they understood from my lesson. From 11 am, Aparna took over the class and taught aeroponics and hydroponics. She started by asking students if it was possible to grow plants without soil, and many responded. After teaching, she asked questions related to the topics she covered, as well as some questions from previous lessons. The students of 8D were very disciplined. We used the blackboard, chalk, and textbook as teaching aids. During the third period, we observed a subject teacher class in 9A. The total strength was 22, with only 10 students present. Silpa teacher taught them about respiration and maintenance of homeostasis, and also asked questions after the lesson. The teaching aids used were the blackboard, chalk, and textbook. At 1 pm, we received a substitution hour for 5A. After a brief introductory session, we asked students to take out their English and Malayalam textbooks and read a random chapter. It was enjoyable teaching the smaller class students, as they were curious and constantly asked questions.
