We selected the Abraham Marthoma Memorial High School, Karavaloor for initiatory school visit.

FIRST DAY

The initiatory school visit commenced on October 21, 2024, a Monday. Five students from our college, including myself (Pooja B I), Aparna S from the Natural Science option, Malavika from the English option, and Anakha and Anupama from the Social Science option, arrived at the school. Malavika was our designated group leader. At 9:00 a.m., we arrived at the school and our leader approached the Headmistress (HM), Mrs. Suja Mathew, and submitted our attendance register and request letter. The HM provided general instructions and assigned us a class to sit. We marked our attendance.

REFLECTION ON SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

We arrived at the school by 9:00 am and met with the Headmistress (HM), who provided us with general instructions and assigned us a class to sit. We marked our attendance shortly after. A special assembly was then held on the school ground about "മാലിന്യമുക്ത നവകേരളം" under the 'നല്ല പാഠം പദ്ധതി' , featuring a prayer, speech, recitation, role-play, dance performance, and a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of a poster-making competition organized by B.Ed. teacher trainees. The HM also conveyed a message from the health department regarding their plan to distribute folic acid tablets to all students in the coming days. Following the assembly, we proceeded to the staff room and met with the biology teacher, requesting permission to observe her class, which she granted. A diagnostic test was being administered to each class that day, with Monday's test being for the 9th standard students. We observed a subject teacher class in the morning session. During the lunch break we saw teachers serving lunch to students as part of the noon-meal program. We also observed the school band practicing for the sub-district Kalolsavam. We observed another subject teacher class in the afternoon session. Additionally, I substituted for the work experience teacher in the 7A class during the last period. I also saw karate and scouts and guides drill practice on the campus. We left the school at 4:00 pm.

REFLECTION ON CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

We observed a subject teacher class from Standard 8 in the morning session from 10:10-10:50 am. The class division was 8A, a Malayalam medium class with a total strength of 26 students, 21 of whom were present that day. The subject teacher was Ms. Chippy. She began by asking students to show their homework from the previous day, then requested them to collect their notebooks and submit them to her table that afternoon. Next, she asked questions on the topic she had covered the previous day and introduced a new topic - "വിളയിക്കാം വൈവിധ്യങ്ങൾ". The learning aids used were the blackboard, textbook, and chalk. Finally, she dictated notes to the students.
At 2:25 pm, we observed another subject teacher class, 8B, an English medium class with a total strength of 33 students, 26 of whom were present (10 boys and 16 girls). The teacher, Ms. Silpa, taught topics on modern techniques in agriculture. She assigned follow-up activities to the students at the end of the class, which concluded at 2:55 pm. The learning aids used were the blackboard and textbook. Both subject teachers taught well and put in considerable effort to ensure their students understood the topics, using learning aids to facilitate better comprehension.
During the last period, I substituted for the work experience teacher in 7A, who was absent, and had a brief conversation with the students.
